Curriculum Intent

At The Charter School East Dulwich we aim to engage and inspire all students to develop a love of music and to have music permeate throughout the school.

We aim to increase our students’ self-confidence and creativity and to enrich their overall sense of achievement and wellbeing.

 

We want to develop our students’ talent as musicians and enable them to participate and contribute to musical activities throughout their whole school life and beyond.

Students will be able to transfer the knowledge and skills obtained through studying music into their other subject areas and future careers.

Key Stage 3

Our KS3 curriculum covers a diverse range of musical genres and performers.

We aim to increase our students’ cultural knowledge and awareness through a wide range of experiences and opportunities, and recognise this is an important part of success in academic study and later life

Students will learn to perform, compose and listen to music with increasing discrimination and awareness of the musical elements.

They will develop their vocal and instrumental fluency and learn to improvise, compose and to use notation. Students will develop an understanding of musical structures, styles, genres and traditions and use technology appropriately.

Key Stage 4

Studying GCSE Musicwill enable students to:

●     Develop their performance skillsand prepare a solo and ensemble performance for final assessment.

●     Learn key composing skills andcreate two compositions for final assessment.

●     Learn to analyse a range ofunfamiliar pieces from a variety of genres.

●     Study and analyse two set works indepth, Bach’s Badinerie and Toto’s Africa.
