At The Charter School East Dulwich studying psychology enables students to have a better understanding of the world around them and to develop a curiosity about the human mind, brain and behaviour.
Students will develop a knowledge of different areas of psychology and how they relate to one another, as well as a deep knowledge and understanding of scientific methodology and its rigour.
They will develop competence in carrying out a range of problem-solving, mathematical and practical activities, including their own research. Students learn how to analyse and interpret data and how to use a number of statistical tests.
Students also learn about and analyse key psychological perspectives and the structure of the brain and mental health.
We have strong links with the Maudsley Psychiatric Hospital and students benefit from introductions to research and opportunities for work experience.
Students can study A Level Psychology in our sixth form.
In year 12, students benefit from an introduction to the subject and explore experiments as a research method and the methodological and ethical issues of studies involving people. We study social influence and memory units as students find these most engaging and provide a solid basis to the rest of theA-Level.
In year 13, students study issues and debates and these topics help to underpin and develop evaluation in all units. We explore forensics, relationships and schizophrenia.
Academic learning is complemented by seeing and experiencing practical applications. We use our local links with the Maudsley Psychiatric Hospital to enable students to experience working with the hospital's researchers.
We have visits from psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurses throughout the course to develop knowledge and understanding and begin to see career pathways.
