Staff and students at The Charter School East Dulwich are today celebrating another year of excellent GCSE and BTEC results. We are extremely proud of our students, who can now progress to their next stage of education with pride.
The vast majority of students met or exceeded their targets, securing their places at Sixth Form or College. We are particularly excited to have so many of our students staying on with us into Year 12 as they sign up today for their Key Stage 5 courses. Our key headlines below showcase our students’ dedication and achievements:
• 71% of students gained a standard pass or above in both English and Maths (Grade 4 to 9)
• 54% gained a strong pass in both English and Maths (Grade 5 to 9)
• 42% of students gained the English Baccalaureate
• 33% of all GCSEs gained by Year 11 pupils at the school were Graded 7-9
• 55% of students gained at least one GCSE with a Grade 7-9
Headteacher Alison Harbottle commented: ‘We are all extremely proud of our students. There are so many exceptional success stories from across the cohort ranging from top grades in all subjects to those who have shown fantastic resilience in the face of challenge and come out with grades well above their goals. The hard work and motivation of students, staff and families has enabled our students to thrive this year. And it’s wonderful to have so many students staying on with us into Sixth Form. We wish every one of them all the best in their next steps.‘
All of our students have something to be proud of in their outcomes and the motivation they have shown. At an individual level there are many notable achievements including:
• Students who gained 9 GCSEs all at Grade 7 or above with the vast majority at grade 8 and 9; Cissie Stern, Prudence Yule, Lily Crompton, Matilda Whiting, Riziki Chemirmir, Sam Overman, Maya Brand, Jude Wachter, Colm Allin, Liv Uppington, Harriet Ungoed-Thomas, Alessia Centanni, Julian Manyeh, Mae James, Harry Carter, Iona Devaraj, Jacob Moore, Charlotte De Souza Matthews and Malec Chaplin.
• Students who made outstanding progress above their target grades, averaging 2 whole grades above across their all subjects; Jake Mucci Thompson, Christian Silcott-Thompson, Lukas Sattaur-May, Dorian Alia, Hafsa Sheakh, Eva Hanna, Melany Prado Mosquera, Rufus Rickard, Maksymillian Luszczyn.
As a growing school with new staff and subject teams we are we are particularly proud of our subject performances across the board as we develop our expertise. Particular strengths this year included:
• In English GCSE 82% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above and 42% Grade 7 or above
• In Mathematics GCSE 75% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above, and 28% Grade 7 or over
• 70% of all Science students gained a Grade 4 or higher and 37% Grade gained at least a Grade 7 or higher
• 52% of GCSE Art students achieved a Grade 7 or higher with 74% securing at least a Grade 5
• Sociology GCSE maintained their strong results for the second year, with 41% of students achieving Grade 7 or above and 77% Grade 4 or above
• Drama GCSE results improved by 15 % with 30% of students entered gaining a Grade 7 or above
The Charter School East Dulwich, part of The Charter Schools Educational Trust, is an inclusive, non-selective, state-funded school and is proud to help our students from such varied backgrounds achieve highly and begin the next stages of their educational journey.
